DEEP LONER, a solo exhibition of oil paintings, sculpture and written word by emerging artist Caitlin Möhr, considers loneliness as a powerful emotion which prevents us from engaging with ourselves and those around us in authentic and meaningful ways. Viewers are taken on a journey through pain, where our deepest challenges are embraced as powerful teachers. The work offers meaningful insight into acknowledging deep feelings and encourages authentic expression of emotion. Inspired by experiences of personal vulnerability and drawing on the teachings of 'deep ecology’ where human life as is considered as part of an interconnected system, ‘Deep Loner’ will be exhibited at Praxis Artspace in August 2024 as part of SALA Festival, under the guidance of the artist’s mentor Solomon Kammer.
A message from the artist: "Over the past few years I have been actively questioning my place in the world, how I relate to my environment and how I can have a progressive impact the beings around me. Last year this deep questioning brought me to an eco-farm in northeast Thailand, a place that nurtured my connection to self, others and the natural environment through intentional living, learning from nature’s organisation and serious contemplation. Through a Deep Ecology workshop, which is an eco-connection philosophy that regards all life as interconnected, I recognised that so many of us long to feel connected and part of a community, and oftentimes compromise our peace by engaging with unimportant or even detrimental things as an attempt to feel valued and integrated. In a world characterised by uncertainty there is a pressing need for authenticity and depth. By confronting our pain and embracing vulnerability, we pave the way for genuine connection and transformation. This exhibition represents a call to action, urging individuals to confront their own discomfort and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Through this process, we not only honour our individual pain and truths but also contribute to the collective healing of society by cultivating a deeper understanding of ourselves, our aspirations, and our interconnectedness with the world around us. In a time of unprecedented challenges, authenticity is our most potent tool for personal and societal renewal. This work builds on from my previous solo exhibition ‘An Introspective Journey’ which considered self-investigation as a path to seeing behind our masks…’Deep Loner’ is a shedding of this mask, and is a testament to the power of vulnerability, empathy, and authenticity." - Caitlin
